Operating guide

What It Is

Every self-tow rental includes an Andersen weight-distribution hitch with built-in sway control. Our team installs, tensions, and checks it at pickup for your specific tow vehicle. This guide covers what you should check — not how to adjust the hitch.

Do Not Adjust

  • Normal hitching and unhitching as demonstrated at pickup is allowed
  • Modifying, removing components from, or bypassing the hitch system is prohibited
  • Do not change chain tension, the sway-control components, or the hitch-head angle yourself
  • Do NOT grease the ball or coupler
  • If anything looks loose, shifted, or wrong, stop in a safe place and call us before continuing

Check at Every Stop

  • All pins and clips are in place
  • Coupler is latched and pinned
  • Safety chains are crossed and attached
  • Breakaway cable is attached to the tow vehicle
  • 7-way connector is seated and lights/brakes work

Unhitching at Your Campsite

  1. Park on level ground in a straight line
  2. Chock the trailer tires on both sides before disconnecting anything
  3. Follow the unhitching steps shown during your pickup walkthrough
  4. If anything binds or looks wrong, stop and call us before continuing
